WHAT IS A BESSEMER?
A Bessemer — this community’s namesake — is a
groundbreaking process developed during the industrial revolution for the mass production
of steel. It revolutionized steel manufacturing, decreasing cost while greatly
increasing the scale and speed of production. The Bessemer name harkens back to
the industrial history of the site including a metal turning manufacturer and
machine shop.
NEIGHBORHOOD
Seward is a neighborhood in Minneapolis
cherished for its dynamic, diverse, mindful, active and committed community. It
is the home of the Seward Coop, adjacent to the campuses of both the U of M and
Augsburg University,
and is literally only minutes from Downtown Minneapolis. A true transit hub,
commuter options include the light rail, numerous bus lines, bike trails, and
major highways crossing the city. Within walking distance are unique and one-of-kind small business along
Franklin Avenue, Minnehaha Avenue and Lake Street. Lastly (but certainly
not least!) is the short distance from The Bessemer to the Mississippi River
(about 1 mile), where you can explore miles of trails and beauty. Really, there
