Getting Around Seward and the Twin Cities

Snelling Avenue runs parallel to the Hiawatha corridor along the eastern edge of the neighborhood, which puts two of the region's main routes within a few blocks of the front door.
 

Roads and Getting Here

The property sits at 2220 Snelling Avenue, one block east of Hiawatha Avenue, which carries State Highway 55. Interstate 94 runs along the northern edge of the neighborhood a few blocks away. Heading west on I-94 leads into downtown, while the eastbound lanes run toward Saint Paul. Following Highway 55 southeast reaches Minnehaha Park, the VA Medical Center, and Minneapolis Saint Paul International Airport.
 

Transit and Bike Connections

Franklin Avenue station sits one block from the building on the METRO Blue Line, which runs north into downtown and south to the airport and Mall of America. Metro Transit bus routes 2, 9, 22, and 67 also serve the station. The Hiawatha LRT Trail passes the property with direct access from the building, and indoor bike storage is available inside. A few blocks south, the Martin Olav Sabo Bridge links the trail to the Midtown Greenway, which runs west across the south side and east to West River Parkway and the Grand Rounds.
 

The Seward and Longfellow Neighborhoods

Seward is bounded by Interstate 94 to the north, the Mississippi River to the east, East 27th Street to the south, and Hiawatha Avenue to the west. It is one of five neighborhoods in the greater Longfellow community, along with Cooper, Hiawatha, Howe, and Longfellow itself. That connection puts the Minnehaha Mile, a bike-friendly stretch of Minnehaha Avenue lined with antique, vintage, and secondhand shops, a short ride south of the building. The Mississippi River Gorge runs along the eastern side of both neighborhoods, with parkland and trails following the shoreline.
 

Parks and Recreation

East Phillips Park sits roughly two-tenths of a mile west of the building, with Matthews Park and Cedar Avenue Field Park both inside a mile and a half. Minnehaha Regional Park is about three and a half miles southeast, reachable by bike on the Hiawatha LRT Trail or by car, and it holds Minnehaha Falls, Lock and Dam No. 1, picnic grounds, and river access. Brackett Field Park in Longfellow, roughly a mile and a half southeast, adds a skate park and the 35-foot Rocket sculpture. A ramp connects Brackett Field to the Midtown Greenway for anyone riding rather than driving.
 

Nearby Employers and Campuses

Fairview Health Services keeps its corporate office under two miles from the building, and its West Bank medical center is about seven tenths of a mile away, a fourteen-minute walk. Hennepin Healthcare, the largest employer in downtown Minneapolis with roughly 7,500 people at its Hennepin County Medical Center campus, is a few stops up the Blue Line. Target Corporation's headquarters at 1000 Nicollet Mall sits in the same downtown core. The University of Minnesota and Augsburg University campuses are both within about two miles, and Abbott Northwestern Hospital is roughly a mile west.
 

Dining and Everyday Errands

Seward Co-op anchors East Franklin Avenue at 2823 East Franklin, about four tenths of a mile east, with a grocery, deli, bakery, and prepared foods counter. Pizza Luce sits at 2200 East Franklin, essentially at the corner. Seward Cafe at 2129 East Franklin has been worker-owned since 1974 and is the oldest collectively run restaurant in the country. Midtown Global Market and Moon Palace Books are farther south, and the cafes along Minnehaha Avenue in Longfellow are about a mile down the road.
